Oklahoma City Schools set to start classes earlier

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Schools in the Oklahoma School District will start classes about two weeks earlier this year.

The district school board last night approved the 2005-06 calendar, which includes a start date of August 18th _ almost two weeks earlier than this year's start date.

The last day of class for students this year is June 3rd.

Officials say they wanted to move the start date up so final exams would occur before winter break and to allow more teaching time before state-mandated spring tests.

District officials say the earlier start date will also be more consistent with other school calendars across the city.
