State Senate approves Governor’s college bond proposal

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A $500-million bond proposal for state colleges and universities sailed through the state Senate Tuesday.

The bill is supported by Governor Brad Henry and was approved on a 47-to-0 vote. It now goes to the state House where Republican House Speaker Todd Hiett is proposing a bill that would change the way colleges finance capital improvement projects.

The bill that passed would provide funding for 140 projects, including new labs, classrooms and building repair and renovations at colleges and universities across the state.
