Cherokee tribal officials have been successful in their efforts to stop further desecration of an ancient Indian burial ground.

The Cherokee Nation filed suit last month, asking a judge to stop the landowners from building permanent structures in an area where old graves are believed to have been. A judge granted an injunction last week.

Court documents state the site is home to the graves of several orphans who were wards of the Cherokee Nation. Cherokee Nation officials want to use a ground-penetrating radar to locate the exact cemetery site.
