OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ An Oklahoma pimp who took a 13-year-old girl to Texas to work as a prostitute was sentenced to 10 years in prison after a federal judge berated the defendant as a heartless predator.
``The only word that comes to my mind for your treatment of this 13-year-old girl is heartless,'' U.S. District Judge Stephen P. Friot told Kelvin Scott Jr., 25.
Scott, of Spencer, pimped the 13-year-old, a 16-year-old girl, an adult prostitute and Casey Jo Pipestem, the judge said.
Pipestem, 19, is one of several victims in a series of prostitute slayings that authorities say may be the work of a serial killer. Scott is not a suspect in Pipestem's death, investigators said.
Friot lambasted Scott, recounting how he made his prostitutes charge between $40 and $80 per sex act, making some stay on the streets every night until they made at least $500.
``The things you did to these girls should never be done to any human being,'' Friot said. ``You are a predator in the purest sense.''
Scott was one of 19 suspects identified after a yearlong FBI-led investigation of Oklahoma City-based pimps trafficking young prostitutes to cities in Texas, Colorado, Florida, Pennsylvania and other states.
Scott admitted the 13-year-old didn't know she was going to Amarillo, Texas, in January 2003. The girl thought she was getting in Scott's car ``just to go party,'' the defendant testified.
On Friday, FBI Special Agent Mike Beaver testified how the girl was particularly vulnerable. She was addicted to methamphetamine, had mental problems that included self-mutilation, was physically fragile and had few street smarts, Beaver said.
``She was a particularly naive child as opposed to the other child victims I've dealt with,'' Beaver said.
Scott apologized to his family before being sentenced.
