CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) -- Country singer Chris LeDoux died Wednesday of complications from liver cancer. He was 56.

LeDoux was a world champion bareback rider who parlayed songs about cowboys he knew on the rodeo circuit into a successful country career.

Oklahoman Garth Brooks had immortalized LeDoux in his 1989 song "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)." LeDoux later became Brooks' opening act on Brooks' highly charged concerts.

LeDoux sold about 6-million records.

He did the duet "Copenhagen" with Toby Keith -- also an Oklahoman -- in 1994 and "Bang a Drum" with Jon Bon Jovi in 1999.

LeDoux's biggest hit was "Whatcha Gonna Do With a Cowboy" in 1992.
