Mayors from surrounding communities are standing together to support Attorney General Drew Edmondson and his efforts to protect Oklahoma water.

Edmondson blames the poultry industry for polluting eastern Oklahoma's major watersheds. He's been negotiating a settlement, but hasn't ruled out legal action. Now the state House is considering a Republican bill that requiring Edmondson who's a Democrat to get permission before moving forward.

Tulsa mayor Bill LaFortune joined mayors from Sand Springs, Broken Arrow, Owasso, Jenks and Claremore for a news conference opposing the bill. They say the proposal limits Edmondson's ability to protect Oklahomans.

Edmondson promises to file a lawsuit immediately if the state House passes the bill. Governor Brad Henry promises to veto the bill if it makes it to his desk.
