OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Retired Oklahomans would be exempt from state income taxes under a bill passed by the state House Tuesday.

The 101 state representatives voted unanimously for the bill by Representative Randy Terrill, sending it to the state Senate for consideration.

The bill would exempt all qualified retirement income from public and private sources from state income taxes beginning January first. Terrill says it's the first step toward making Oklahoma a destination for retirees.

The state House also passed and sent to the Senate a bill to waive tuition for Oklahoma military personnel who serve at least one tour of duty in support of the war against terror and to the children of an Oklahoman killed in action.
