Muskogee unveils 'new' courthouse

(Muskogee-AP) -- Muskogee County officers are happy to be in
their "new" old home this week.

Most county offices are back in the Muskogee County Courthouse.
The courthouse has been reopened after a 7-point-5 million
dollar renovation. The renovation was completed over 18-months.

County Commissioner Dexter Payne says Muskogee had lost many of
its historical buildings. He says the more they can preserve, the
better for the history of the town.

The building got a facelift inside and out. Crews put in new
walls, plumbing, wiring and windows. The office space got a total
redesign, and the exterior got an in-depth cleaning.

One discovery during the renovation was of an ornate ceiling in
District Judge Jim Edmondson's courtroom. It had previously been
hidden by a lower, less attractive ceiling.
