Zoo worker benefits continued

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma City Zoo will continue salary
and benefits for an injured zookeeper for three more months as she
continues recovery from a mauling by a tapir.

The zoological trust agreed Wednesday to the extension for Lisa
Morehead, 34.

Ms. Morehead was attacked in November and lost her left arm. She
also suffered severe injuries to her legs, neck, head and torso.
She is in rehabilitation.

Ms. Morehead was attacked as she tried to feed the female tapir
and its baby. The zoo has modified the way it feeds tapirs.

Oklahoma City Manager Glenn Deck, who is a trust member,
recommended the extension but suggested the trust consider placing
Ms. Morehead on permanent disability at the end of that time.

The permanent disability would continue medical benefits and
provide a reduced salary.
