Tulsa Nun Takes Vows

Updated:
A Tulsa woman made a lifelong commitment to her church over the weeekend. "I Sister Marie Therese Long, freely promise with these perpetual vows." For the first time in five years in Tulsa, a woman went through the ceremony to become a nun at Saint Joseph's Monastery. The News on Six was the only television crew allowed to watch the private ceremony. Sister Marie Therese Long's parents and friends were also on hand as she was presented a ring symbolizing her marriage to the church.
Sister Marie says "everything I need is right here, I don't have to go out searching anywhere else. My means to finding God and getting closer to God are right here in the people live with and in the day to day situations that come." This event was very special considering the number of women becoming nuns has been dropping for decades. Sister Marie worked as a nurse in Tulsa and believes she was called to the church to help the homeless.
