MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- Business leaders will hear from taxpayers
next week on why voters defeated a one-cent city sales tax increase
Oct. 12.

The tax would have paid for economic development and capital
improvements in Muskogee. Business leaders are concerned that the
city will lose any advantage it had in recruiting new business and
may have to shut down Muskogee Development.

Muskogee Development and the Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a
listening sessions in each of the city's four wards beginning next
week.

The business group leaders see the meeting as a sounding board
for taxpayers to say what, if any projects, they will support.
