DEQ orders cleanup of debris from historic

Updated:
The demolition of an historic building in
Muskogee is causing problems for the companies responsible for its cleanup.

The state Department of Environmental Quality has cited the parties for improper dumping of debris from the historic Flynn-Ames
Building.

Most of the debris didn't end up in a landfill but in three other locations in the area. D-E-Q says improper material was deposited in the sites and it must be removed, cleaned and taken to the proper landfills.

D-E-Q spokesman Michael Dean says material such as concrete, dirt and rock can be dumped in construction and demolition
landfills.

But Ball says inspectors found books, lead pipes, plastic and aluminum when they inspected the debris last month.
