Local Sex Offender Web Site Proves Popular with Parents

Halloween is almost here and safety is on most parents’ minds. Thousands of people a day are visiting the Tulsa Police Department’s new sex offender web site. The site can help parents avoid certain houses during Halloween. In June, the department’s sex crimes unit began placing registered sex offenders' names and addresses on the Internet. Since then, more than 100 offenders have moved out of the city. "I think it's comforting,” said Tulsa police sergeant Pat Calhoun. “Especially, if you have kids playing on your block. You can find out if a sex offender lives on your street and tell the kids to stay away from this person."

The Tulsa County Sheriff's office will also have a similar web site, which will go on-line within one month. The News on Six will keep you posted when it’s available on the web. You can access the Tulsa Police sex offenders web site by clicking the highlighted address below.
