Local Sex Offender Web Site Proves Popular with Parents

Halloween is almost here and safety is on most parentsâ€™ minds. Thousands of people a day are visiting the Tulsa Police Departmentâ€™s new sex offender web site. The site can help parents avoid certain houses during Halloween. In June, the departmentâ€™s sex crimes unit began placing registered sex offenders' names and addresses on the Internet. Since then, more than 100 offenders have moved out of the city. "I think it's comforting,â€ said Tulsa police sergeant Pat Calhoun. â€œEspecially, if you have kids playing on your block. You can find out if a sex offender lives on your street and tell the kids to stay away from this person."
