Researchers say older women who smoke are more than twice as likely to get lung cancer as are older men smokers.

The researchers surveyed one-thousand people, and found 19 women and ten men with lung cancer. They say the risk was higher for women in all the groups measured -- heavy smokers, moderate smokers and light smokers.

The study was done by researchers in New York City. One Cornell researcher says more work is needed to find any reason for the sex
difference. She says it could be that women smoke more of a cigarette than men do before stubbing it out.

The findings are to be presented at a chest doctors' conference in Chicago.
