Poll shows Oklahomans like their schools

Most Oklahomans give their schools a
passing grade.

Fifty-seven percent of Oklahomans gave the quality of their schools an A or a B in a poll commissioned by the Oklahoma Commission on Education. The poll released today surveyed 500 Oklahoma residents in September.

More than half say schools have been upgraded since they were students.

Fifty-one percent say surplus funds should go to public schools. Ninety-three percent favor more funding for technology. Ninety-two percent support more money for teacher salaries and 83 percent want to increase funding for capital improvements and
cutting class size.

The poll comes as Governor Keating proposes reforms. Commission officials say the poll shows Oklahomans support their schools but
favor more funding.
