Pipe bomb explosion under investigation
CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) -- A pipe bomb explosion during an attempted burglary of a police firing range is under investigation by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
ATF agents have recovered evidence of a bomb at the Claremore Police Department firing range, which is about 3 1/2 miles northeast of the city, said Assistant Police Chief John Cummings.
The explosion was discovered Saturday. It caused about $100 damage to the steel double doors of a building used to store targets.
Cummings said the building did not hold weapons or ammunition.
"They worked pretty hard to get in there, but they couldn't gain entry," he said.
No one has been arrested.
