Ex- DEA Agent Gets 7 Years in Plot

Updated:
LAREDO, Texas (AP) — A former federal drug agent was sentenced to seven years in prison Friday for trying to arrange a murder to avenge the killing of his cousin.

Salvador Martinez, 37, pleaded guilty in February to attempted murder for hire. The former Drug Enforcement Administration agent admitted offering a drug informant $10,000 to kill 17-year-old Miguel Angel Flores.

Flores was accused of shooting to death Martinez's cousin during a 1995 carjacking. Flores was found guilty but the conviction was thrown out on appeal. After two mistrials, prosecutors dismissed the case.

When agents raided Martinez's office, they found videotapes and snapshots of Flores.

Martinez could have gotten 10 years in prison.
