School officials being investigated

(Wewoka-AP) -- School officials in Wewoka are being investigated for possibly circumventing the state's bidding law.

State auditors are trying to determine if school officials followed the law when they bought a $19,000 sprinkler system for the high school football and baseball fields.

The state attorney general's office asked for the audit.

The Daily Oklahoman reports that the school bought parts for the sprinklers for nearly $8,000.

They awarded the bid to install the sprinkler system to an Okmulgee irrigation company.

State law says contracts involving sums of more than $12,500 shall be competitively bid.

The contracts can't be split into labor and parts.
