A controversial company is shutting its doors.
Greenway Environmental Incorporated in Stone Bluff says it will close at the end of the week for financial reasons.
Fire nearly destroyed the company in 1997 when it was called the Chief Chemical Company.
One man died as a result.
Environmental specialists had to clean up after the fire.
That sparked safety concerns and protests from residents who wanted the company out of Stone Bluff.
The State and the owners went to court over the issue but the company eventually opened under the name Greenway Environmental.
Company leaders say almost all the waste has been removed and the site improved but the E-P-A and the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality do plan to inspect the area.
