Fire investigated at Tulsa high school

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A fire that broke out in a high school arts and crafts room caused an estimated $150,000 to $200,000 in damage before being extinguished early Tuesday, a fire official said.

Firefighters found flames coming from the first floor of Webster High School when they arrived on the scene after receiving a call shortly before midnight, Capt. Hubert Rouse said.

Investigators did not know what caused the blaze. They were considering whether it was tied to a kiln that had been turned on Monday, he said.

The fire gutted the classroom and caused damage to the second floor. The fire burned so hot that the steel beams in the ceiling "were just glowing white," Rouse said.

No one was hurt.
