(Santa Clara, California-AP) -- Former Oklahoma State Cornerback R-W McQuarters has been traded from the San Francisco 49ers to the Chicago Bears in a cost-cutting move.
For McQuarters, the 49ers got an undisclosed conditional draft pick next year.
They saved $875,000 against the salary cap.
McQuarters was the 28th overall pick for the 49ers in 1998. He returned kicks and punts, but never established himself as a starter for the 49ers. He fractured his right shoulder blade when he was hit returning a punt November 29th against Green Bay and missed the last five games of the season.
McQuarters says he'd heard rumors he was going to be either traded or released and says the move was not a surprise. He says he's looking forward to proving himself in Chicago.
