Many fans are tired of basketball coaches using TU as a turnstile to move onto better opportunities.
Some of the experts say TU is trying their best to compete with the Goliaths of college sports.
Fans vented their frustration of Bill Self's departure on AM 1430's sports radio live.
Host Don King took court out at Bell's Friday afternoon.
He, co-producer Brad Venable, and the call-in guests tried to make sense out of another coach leaving.
“I think you have to turn a negative into a positive. I think you have to look at this as being a great proving ground for some great coaches" says King.
ESPN broadcaster, Bob Carpenter was a guest on the show and said TU's conference, the Western Athletic Conference, known as the WAC, can't keep with the mighty big 10 or big 12.
"Bill would never have that opportunity staying at TU and playing in the WAC,†says Carpenter.
But TU points out, its conference, the WAC, set some records this year.
Two football teams made bowl games, a baseball team is in the College World Series, and TU's basketball team made the elite 8.
But fans say TU’s turnstile of basketball coaches will continue unless, TU's conference gets stronger or if they move to a better conference. For this to happen, fans say TU's football program needs to get on par with the basketball program.
T-U is confident they found the leader who will take them to the promise land, new coach Keith Burns.
"If it becomes as successful as the basketball program, I think it will open some doors for this University to get into a bigger conference," King says.
On the other hand, sports talk radio's Don King says TU fans should appreciate the basketball program they have.
Because another way to stop the turnstile, is an average record and TU's been close the top for several years.
