(Tulsa-AP) -- New Tulsa head hoops coach Buzz Peterson has a fan who is called the greatest basketball player ever to play the game.
Michael Jordan sent an e-mail to the Tulsa World saying that Peterson will do a great job at Tulsa. Jordan says he's excited for his friend and the Tulsa program.
Peterson beat out Jordan for North Carolina player of the year honors in 1981. But that didn't lessen the friendship between the two who met at a basketball camp in high school.
Jordan and Peterson roomed together for two years at North Carolina and won a national title as freshmen.
When Peterson suffered a torn ligament as a sophomore, Jordan started wearing a wristband on his left arm as a tribute to his friend. Jordan continued wearing it throughout his N-B-A career.
