(Nowata-AP) -- Bail is set at 250-thousand dollars for a man charged with shooting a Nowata County sheriff's deputy.

Steven Hindman is accused of shooting Deputy Billy Scott in the right hand last month. Hindman is charged with shooting with intent to kill.

Scott had stopped a vehicle Hindman was driving during a search for Hindman's nephew, Billie Guthrie. Guthrie was a suspect in an armed robbery in Bartlesville.

Police say that following an exchange of gunfire, Hindman led Scott on a chase east of Lenapah.

Hindman drove his vehicle into a grove of trees and then ran, carrying a rifle with a scope. Hindman was the focus of an extensive search until he turned himself in Thursday night.
