Muskogee economic survey shows positive impact

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- An economic impact survey conducted by an assistant business professor at Bacone College estimates the college contributed $8.68 million a year to the Muskogee economy.

"If we do good, the local economy will do good," said Jeff Bruns, the assistant business professor.

The $8.68 million is in direct and indirect dollars and was based on an operating budget of $6.2 million in mid-August. Bacone President Norman Madsen said the actual operating budget is now $7.2 million.

Bruns said as the college grows, more money can be fed into the economy.

Madsen said he expects the college will need to house at least 100 more on-campus students next school year. The projected growth is due in part to new programs, including several sports.

The two-year college has 718 students enrolled this fall, up from 328 the same time last year.
