Educators say federal court ruling jeopardizes honor rolls

(Tulsa-AP) -- Some Tulsa educators are worried that public school honor rolls are jeopardized by a recent federal court ruling.

The Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on a lawsuit filed by an Owasso parent that students can't grade another student's papers, then call that grade out loud.

Administrators in Tulsa asked the school district's lawyers for an opinion on whether honor rolls would violate the court's ruling that grades can't be made public.

School attorney David Fist says the law that protects a student's privacy and grades has an exception for recognizing students who earn honors.
