(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A newspaper report today says Oklahoma's senior associate athletic director will be the new athletic director at Iowa State.

The Daily Oklahoman reports that Bruce Van De Velde will succeed Gene Smith at I-S-U. Smith resigned in July.

Van De Velde would not confirm the news. He is an Iowa State alumnus and a former assistant football coach there.

Oklahoma State senior associate athletic director Dave Martin was also a finalist for the job.
