Senator says state question will provide tobacco 'slush fund'

(Oklahoma City-AP) -- State Senator Frank Shurden says State Question six-92 will create the largest pork barrel slush fund in state history.

The Henryetta Democrat today announced his opposition to the state question, a week before voters go to the polls to decide the constitutional plan.

Shurden says he voted against the bill which sent the proposal to a vote of the people. He says he supports protecting tobacco settlement money, but doesn't like the idea of giving a seven-member board total control of the money.

The seven members of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust Fund will be selected by elected officials. The settlement money is expected to top two (B) billion dollars over 25 years.

Shurden is urging Oklahomans to vote no on State Question six-92.
