(Tulsa-AP) -- A former Jenks teacher has pleaded guilty in Tulsa County District Court to making a lewd proposal to a 14-year-old female student.

Prosecutors are recommending a 10-year sentence for 52-year-old James Clifton Williams.

Defense attorney Kent Hudson believes the former history and civics teacher could be given probation because he is a first-time offender who accepted responsibility for his action.

Williams says he received a telephone call from the girl who was a student in his civics class, and that the conversation turned sexual.

Williams was suspended by the district before resigning in January.

Judge Jesse Harris ordered that two background reports be prepared, one to evaluate Williams merits as a candidate for probation, the other for prison.

Formal sentencing is set for December 13th.
