O-S-U reserve glad to be playing

(Stillwater-AP) -- Oklahoma State walk-on Roger Bombach is proud of how far he's come since his days at Class-A Beaver High School.

The junior safety finally got significant playing time last Saturday during the Cowboys' loss to Colorado.

Head coach Bob Simmons says starting free safety Robbie Gillem just wasn't playing well, so Bombach got the call and stayed in the game.

Bombach's statistics aren't impressive, five tackles in seven games this year, but he says that isn't the measure of his success. He's proud to come from a small school that graduated 33 his senior year to contribute to a Division One team.

Simmons calls Bombach a role player who has worked himself into position to be a backup safety. He also sees action on the kickoff team and is the fullback on the punting unit.
