Woman sentenced to 35 years in fatal robbery

(Tulsa-AP) -- A woman who pleaded guilty to charges in connection with a robbery that turned deadly has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Karen Johnson pleaded guilty to six counts of robbery after prosecutors agreed to drop a first-degree murder charge.

Johnson, her son and two others had been charged with murder in the September 1999 death of Fabian Venancio.

Venancio was shot to death in his apartment while six others were robbed there.

Matthew Johnson was convicted of murder and robbery in the case and sentenced to life plus 120 years in prison.

Robert Antonio Benson pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and six robbery counts last Thursday. Benson admitted shooting Venancio and was sentenced to life plus 30 years.

Megan Mitchell pleaded guilty in March to one count of robbery.

Six other charges against her were dropped in exchange for her testimony against Matthew Johnson.
