POZZUOLI, Italy (AP) â€” Actress Sophia Loren returned to her hometown near Naples on Sunday after a 15-year-absence.

The Academy Award-winner, who lives in Switzerland and the United States, is shooting a film with director Lina Wertmuller in Procide, a tiny fishing island in the Bay of Naples.

Loren, a symbol of Italian female beauty, took a detour to the nearby town of her birth accompanied by her sister and her niece, lawmaker Alessandra Mussolini, granddaughter of the late dictator Benito Mussolini.

Last spring, Alessandra Mussolini objected after Loren's hometown canceled the actress' name from its roll of voters, saying she had lived abroad for too long.
