(St. Paul, Minnesota-AP) -- The oldest and largest American Indian tribal organization in America has convened its annual meeting in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

The 57th National Congress of American Indians were told by Red Lake tribal chairman Bobby Whitefeather the uncertainty of the U-S presidential election gives them time to pause. Whitefeather also says Indians also should reflect on the issues they face.

This week's events include a discussion of post-election strategy for the tribes and speeches by actor Danny Glover, Energy Secretary Bill Richardson and Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt.

Also planned is a gambling update from the National Indian Gaming Administration.

Tribal leaders from more than 300 tribes are attending the conference.
