(Midland-AP) -- Midland authorities say two remaining misdemeanor charges against Texas running back Cedric Benson have been dropped today.

Midland City Attorney Keith Stretcher says authorities couldn't meet the burden of proof in the drug paraphernalia and alcohol possession charges.

Benson attorney Brian Carney says his client is very happy and the inevstigation proved his claims of innocence.

Benson, who's 19, and 20-year-old Melanie Robinson were arrested at Robinson's Midland apartment on April 27th.

Police had responded to a call about loud music.

Both were charged with possession of less than two ounces of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

The drug possession charge against Benson _ a Class B misdemeanor _ was dropped last week for lack of evidence.

The case against Robinson is continuing.
