Vinita committee makes safety recommendations

Updated:
Six months after a nurse was shot and killed at a Vinita Hospital, a safety committee has recommended ways to prevent future tragedies.

A former mental patient from Eastern State Hospital killed DeAnna Dorsey last October as she worked at Craig General Hospital. Eastern State closed in 1999, leaving mental health patients with no place to go.

The Vinita Health Care and Safety Committee has asked city leaders to consider spending $50,000 for an improved and expanded day center for former patients.
