Flyers announce Hitchcock hired as coach

Updated:
(Voorhees, New Jersey-AP) -- Fired Dallas Stars coach Ken Hitchcock has a new job -- with Philadelphia.

The Flyers Tuesday named Hitchcock as head coach.

Hitchcock served as an assistant coach in Philadelphia from 1990-93.

He was fired by the Stars in January.

Hitchcock replaces Bill Barber, who was fired two weeks ago after the Flyers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs -- for the fourth time in five years.

Hitchcock has a 277-160-60-and-6 record in the regular season, and is 47-and-33 in the playoffs.
