The Tulsa City County Health Department has approved a $1.5-million contract to improve our readiness for a possible bioterrorism attack.

The money will go towards more disease specialists, lab equipment and computer programs to monitor symptoms and disease. And if a bioterrorism attack never comes, we'll have these measures in place to fight other widespread health problems. Dr. Gary Woodruff, Health Department Assistant Director: "Tick fever, problems with the water supply, food-born illness a lot of things like that that we need better detection capabilities for to start with those will be in place and they will help the overall system whether we ever have a bioterrorism incident or not."

Health officials say they did well during a mock bioterrorism attack last month, but this contract is needed to be ready for the real thing.
