Steel beam from World Trade Center to become memorial in Bixby

A piece of the World Trade Center found a home in Bixby Thursday. A steel beam that was once a part of twin towers is on display at the Washington Irving Memorial Park.

The Friends of Irving Foundation, with the help of Cathy Keating's office, learned about two weeks ago that they were approved to pick up a piece of steel. Bill Pittman, chairman of Friends of Irving Foundation, “Of course, everybody was involved when the tragedy happened in New York City and we wanted to do something to show that we in Oklahoma, particularly Bixby, we recognize what was happening and we wanted to honor them, the people that were killed the firemen and the policemen and all the innocent victims."

Once the funds are raised, the beam will be mounted on a base and will become a permanent tribute in Bixby to the victims of September 11th.
