Save A Life Saturdays in Tulsa Parks

Updated:
When you think of Saturdays at the park, you might think of families having picnics and people having fun.

But Saturday at Tulsa's Whiteside Park, there also was a life saving lesson. Bob Wunsch, heart attack victim, "she shook me and then realized I hadn’t gone to sleep, it was something much worse than that."

A trip to the movies almost turned deadly for Bob Wunsch. He was enjoying a show last March when all of a sudden he went into cardiac arrest. “My wife thought I had gone to sleep, sounded like I was snoring." But he wasn't snoring. Luckily a fellow moviegoer knew what to do. "If there hadn’t been somebody in the theatre at the time I was in cardiac arrest. They knew CPR. They gave me CPR. I would not have survived.”

Paramedics say when someone has a heart attack, every second counts. So learning CPR could literally mean the difference between life and death. EMSA EMT, David Howerton, "If you start CPR within two to three minutes, the chance of survival and the chain of survival is going to be a lot greater than it is if we wait five to 10 minutes."

Citizens CPR is teaming up with Tulsa Parks for Save a Life Saturdays. It's free, hands-on CPR training every Saturday this month. And the whole family can come and learn.

Bob brought along his two grandsons. The class teaches not only CPR, but also the Heimlich maneuver and heart healthy living. Volunteers can't say enough about the program.
