State finances holding steady

(Oklahoma City-AP) -- State finance officials say schools, prisons and other state agencies won't have to cut any more from their budgets -- for now.

Alison Fraser of the Office of State Finance says Oklahoma collected enough taxes to cover operations in October. Tax collection figures for November will be released today.

Shawn Ashley of the finance office says more cuts could be possible before the end of the fiscal year which finishes at the end of June. Ashley says the financial situation will become more clear later this month when the state Board of Equalization estimates how much money Oklahoma needs to function another year.

A shortfall has forced finance officials to cut monthly allocations to state agencies by more than nine percent each month through June.
