(Indianapolis-AP) -- Oklahoma Panhandle State University was placed on five years probation Wednesday by the NCCA Division 2 Committee on Infractions.
The committee found several violations in football, men's and women's basketball, baseball and women's golf, including what it calls a severe lack of institutional control.
Other violations include improper certification of student-athletes, extra benefits, violations in recruiting, improper inducements and unethical conduct.
The committee also says unless Panhandle State devotes more money to the administration of the athletics department, it should reassess its ability to compete at the NCAA Division 2 level.
Interim Panhandle State President Wayne Manning did not immediately return a phone call to The Associated Press.
