'PROJECT EAGLE' plan discussed

Updated:
A follow up to a recent story by Oklahoma Traveler Scott Thompson. Last month, Scott took us to the Zuni Indian aviary reservation in New Mexico. There he found a sanctuary for wounded eagles and shared the story of an injured eagle from Oklahoma. That report, prompted Oklahoma's Native American leaders to discuss creating a similar place here. They met for the first time Tuesday evening to discuss their plan, called "Project Eagle. The American Indian Chamber of Commerce says it would be beneficial both to the eagles, as well as their people. Roger Peacock, Chairman American Indian Chamber of Commerce: "And try to start putting together a tightly organized coalition of tribes or tribe to bring these eagle aviaries sanctuaries to the state of Oklahoma." The group says they would use the feathers that naturally fall from the eagles for tribal rituals.
