JUNETEENTH celebration kicks off with Jazz Hall of Fame inductions

Wednesday night, some of state’s finest musicians were inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. The annual event held at the Greenwood Cultural Center, honors those who have made a significant impact on Jazz, Blues and Gospel music. Jazz musicians Claude Williams, Charles and Barbara Burton and Sunny Gray were among the 2001 inductees, along with Blues Artist Wayne Bennet and Gospel Musician Glenn Edward Burley. Three others were also recognized for their achievements. Maxine Horner, Founder of the Oklahoma National Jazz Hall of Fame: "One of the things that's probably the best secret in the world is that most people do not realize that we have this rich heritage here in Oklahoma." KOTV was a proud sponsor of Wednesday's event. News on Six anchors Paul Serrell and Kim Graham served as hosts.

Of course you can hear all kinds of great jazz, blues and gospel at the 2001 Juneteenth Music Festival. It runs thru Saturday. Just head out to 300 North Greenwood. The concerts are free, just bring your lawnchair!
