USTA Women's Satellite Tennis Tournament in Edmond

(Edmond-AP) -- The second round of qualifying for the U-S-T-A Women's Satellite Tournament in Edmond continues today.

First round qualifying wrapped up yesterday (Sunday). Edmond's Jennifer DeSpain moved to within one win of qualifying for the main draw.

The unseeded DeSpain, who plays for the University of Tulsa, advanced to the third round by beating fourth-seeded Niki Tippins, 7-5, 7-6 (8).

DeSpain was the only Oklahoman to make it out of the first round. She plays Natallia Dziamidzenka today for a spot in the tournament.

Top-seeded Tracy O-Connor of New Zealand made it to the third round.

Tournament action begins tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Kickingbird Tennis Center in Edmond. Today's qualifying event is free and open to the public.
