NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ A man was shot and killed by a police officer Monday after the man stabbed two people, including a boy who later died at a hospital, authorities said.
A policeman arrived to find the man stabbing a woman and a boy in the front yard of a home, said Norman Police Lt. Paul Swenson. The officer ordered him to drop his weapon.
``He refused to do so and continued stabbing the victims,'' Swenson said. ``He (the officer) fired one round at the suspect.''
The child died later at Norman Regional Medical Center from stab wounds to the back, said hospital spokeswoman Karen Caraway. The woman was in serious condition with stab wounds to her arms, trunk and head.
The names and ages of those involved in the incident were not immediately released.
Swenson said police were trying to determine the relationship between the man, woman and child and a motive for the incident. The child was believed to be about 8 years old.
