'OZONE ALERT' in Tulsa

Tuesday was the first ‘ozone alert’ day of the summer season. The day passed without incident. No ‘ozone alert’ was expected for Tulsa on Wednesday. Last year, there were 15 ‘ozone alert’ days in Tulsa.

The City of Tulsa and the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality urged residents to limit driving, avoid using gas-powered lawn equipment and wait to fill auto gas tanks until after sundown to reduce ozone buildup.

Officials say ozone happens when gas emissions combine with sunny, windless conditions. It can create respiratory problems in children, the elderly and asthmatics. Alert conditions are prevalent from May to September.
