COUPLE Face Animal Cruelty Charges

Two people face animal cruelty charges after leaving their dogs locked in a hot car. Police say the dogs were found in a car at the parking lot of a Broken Arrow department store over the weekend.

They suffered through temperatures of nearly 140-degrees inside the car. A Tulsa vet told the News On Six that the dogs could have easily died within fifteen minutes.

Dr Scott Nicholson, Veterinarian:"They can overheat in a jiffy. just like people, when you overheat you can go into shock. It can destroy the brain and you're dead."

Deanna Baker and Stephanie Wilson were arrested. If convicted, they face the possibility of five years in prison. The dogs are in the custody of the Broken Arrow animal shelter.
