Protecting your privacy and sorting out the latest online rumor. Most credit card companies, banks and credit bureaus sell customer information to other companies.
An online rumor claims if you didn't opt out, financial institutions and credit bureaus will give the information to anyone who asks. That's not true. They only sell it to affiliates or marketers. You can still opt out by calling your credit card companies and banks. To notify the credit bureaus, call 1-888-5-OPT-OUT. You will have to provide your social security number.
