PROTECTING your privacy

Updated:
Protecting your privacy and sorting out the latest online rumor. Most credit card companies, banks and credit bureaus sell customer information to other companies.

A new federal law allows you to opt out, and keep them from selling that information to marketing lists. The law required most institutions to send customers a copy of their privacy policy by July 1st, and information on how to opt out.

An online rumor claims if you didn't opt out, financial institutions and credit bureaus will give the information to anyone who asks. That's not true. They only sell it to affiliates or marketers. You can still opt out by calling your credit card companies and banks. To notify the credit bureaus, call 1-888-5-OPT-OUT. You will have to provide your social security number.
