VIRGINIA WATER, England (AP) _ John Daly has confirmed he will play in the German Masters in Cologne from October 4 to 7 and in the World Match Play Championship at Wentworth the following week.

Daly said Saturday that he would play the two events despite fears that many players have expressed about flying in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in the U.S. on September 11.

``I've got to believe flying is the safest thing right now,'' said the American, who is playing in the Pennsylvania Classic.

Daly had earlier declared his intention of playing in Cologne after his victory in the BMW International in Munich early this month, his first triumph since he won the British Open at St Andrews in 1995.

Organizers of the World Match Play event did not include Daly's name in a partial list announced last week for their event although a further announcement is expected shortly.

There were also widespread reports that Robert Allenby of Australia, named as one of the Match Play field, had pulled out.

Allenby who was leading the rain-delayed Pennsylvania Classic overnight, was reported to be wary of flying and anxious to secure his spot in the U.S. Tour Championship in November.
