Haywood, Crouch split Big 12 offensive honor


DALLAS (AP) _ Iowa State running back Ennis Haywood and Nebraska quarterback Eric Crouch were named the Big 12 co-offensive players of the week.

Texas Tech defensive back Paul Clendon, who returned a fumble and interception for touchdowns, was the league's defensive player of the week and Kansas State's Aaron Lockett, a Tulsa, Okla., native who had a 97-yard kickoff return, took the special teams award.

Haywood rushed for 219 yards, his third 200-yard game in his last nine regular season appearances, in Iowa State's 31-28 victory over Ohio. He also scored two touchdowns.

Crouch played only the first half of No. 4 Nebraska's 48-3 victory over Rice. In that short time, he completed 9 of 11 passes for 165 yards and three touchdowns, and also ran for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

McClendon, the Texas Tech defensive back, has already scored three TDs this season. After returning a fumble for a touchdown in Tech's season opener, he returned a fumble 6 yards for a TD and an interception for a 50-yard TD in a 42-14 victory over North Texas.

Lockett returned the second half kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown in Kansas State's 64-0 win over New Mexico State. He finished the game with 211 all-purpose yards (97 on kickoff returns, 60 receiving, 51 on punt returns and 3 rushing).
